Biography
Dr. Amy S. Ferguson is a licensed therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Oklahoma State University in 1991 and was a member of the OSU track team for four years. She later obtained her Master of Science in School Counseling from Oklahoma State University while serving as an assistant coach for the University's track and field team. Before pursuing her doctoral studies, Ferguson dedicated nearly a decade to education, working as a teacher, coach and school counselor.
In 2005, Ferguson earned her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry. During her training, she completed externships in primary eye care at the Wurzburg Medac in Wurzburg, Germany, and at Space Center Eye Associates in Clear Lake, Texas.
Ferguson has extensive experience in clinical practice, having owned and operated several commercial optometry practices alongside her husband, as well as a private practice in Boerne, Texas. She developed significant expertise in high-volume contact lens care with a focus on treating anterior segment pathology.
In 2012, Ferguson joined the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) Rosenberg School of Optometry, where she served as deputy director of clinics for the UIW Eye Institute from 2013-17. During her time there, she co-founded the UIW Sports and Vision Enhancement Service, contributing to the advancement of sports vision care. In addition, Ferguson taught in the undergraduate Vision Science program and served as the lead instructor for the fourth-year clinical internship course.
Ferguson is currently serving as the director of Student Success and Achievement at ±«Óãtv School of Optometry. She is passionate about helping students reach their full potential as they pursue a career in optometry. She has been an active member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and currently serves on the AOA Sports and Performance Vision Committee.
Outside of her professional commitments, Ferguson enjoys spending time with her husband and son, Jackson. She is an avid sports enthusiast, a devoted theater patron and takes great joy in attending her son’s activities.
